Japan is the country surrounded with the seas together with a lot of natural
marine resources. But recently, the seas are being damaged by human activities.
MARINE PARKS are natural parks same as the terrestrial National Parks and
Quasinational Parks. Japanese Marine Parks were established in 1970, for
conservation of beautiful underwater scapes and that of marine organism
living there, and for appropriate utilization of shallow water areas. Various
sizes of the marine parks have been settled at about 60 different places
around Japan, having the aim at contributing to enviromental conservation,
education, and sightseeing. |

Kushimoto Marine Park |

KUSHIMOTO MARINE PARK is the first established marine park in Japan. The
park located along Sabiura Coast in Kushimoto, where is the southern-most
point of Honshu, Mainland of Japan. The sea was designated as the marine
park in July, 1970, associated with the Yoshino-Kumano National Park. Kuroshio
Current washes the coast, so sea water is clear and stands at a high temperature
all the year. In the under sea, a lot of reef corals and colorful tropical
fishes make a beautiful underseascapes. Many coral reef organisms are living
among the coral communities, and they make the northern-most coral reef
ecosystem in the world. |

Kushimoto Marine Park Center |

The beautiful underwater scapes in Kushimoto Marine Park are not easely
observable by every persons without any facilities. Kushimoto Marine Park
Center was established for visitors easy to be in close contact with underwater
nature. Kushimoto Marine Park Center has the Undersea Tower, the Aquarium, and the Undersea Sightseeing Boat "Stella Maris", as facilities for visitors. Furthermore, Kushimoto Diving Park is provided for skin and SCUBA Divers. |
